This article is intended to provide troubleshooting steps for some common issues we see our users running into when they contact tech support.
Let's start by checking the status of the major components involved. This will help us get to the root of the problem.
Test 1 - Check for a Valid License
- Start the GLSActUtil program and make sure you see a valid license.
- If that is valid, close the application and continue with the test. Otherwise, find the latest Activation ID needed to re-activate your license.
- Close GLSActUtil
Test 2 - GoldSim Client Connection
The purpose of this test is to see if a client GoldSim can acquire a license seat from the network license server. By performing this on the server, we rule out any network connectivity issues between the client machine and the server machine.
- Install GoldSim on the server. If this is against company policy, skip this test.
- Open GoldSim and click on the Help Menu and select Licensing...
- In the license Manager, click the Configure... button
- Enter the port and address of the server (if you are doing this on the server, you can use "localhost" as the machine name if you want)
The test is successful if you are able to acquire a license. You will see the word "Network" under the Acquired License Features area of the License Manager as shown below.
If you are not able to acquire a license, confirm that you have the correct license address with the following syntax: port@host_name
Find the Vendor Daemon Port Number for a Network License
If you are still not able to acquire a license from GoldSim, go to the next test.
Test 3 - Is the License Service Running?
Check to make sure the FNPLS license service (lmadmin64) is running.
- On the server, open a web browser and enter the following URL:
- If you are logged into the server, enter "localhost:8090"
- If you are on a client machine with access to the server, enter "server_name:8090"
- This URL will open the lmadmin User Interface.
- If you see the FNPLS Administration Page, then the test is successful. You can move to the next test.
- If you see something like the below error, it means the lmadmin64 service is not running.
- At this time, check to make sure you have the latest version of lmadmin. Flexera is continuously improving this software to keep it secure. To check this, please follow these steps:
- Open a command prompt in this directory (on the server): C:\Program Files\FlexNet Publisher 64-bit License Server Manager
- type the command: .\lmadmin.exe -version
- You should see the latest version reported here, which should match the version we have posted on our downloads page here: NetworkDownloads - GoldSim
- If you don't have the latest version, you should upgrade the license server now by following these steps: Upgrade a Network License Service
- Attempt to start the lmadmin service by going to the Windows Services Manager and starting the lmadmin service:
- Once lmadmin is started, go back to Test 2 above. If it still fails, move to the next test.
Test 4 - Is the vendor daemon up and configured properly?
This test checks the state of the lmadmin vendor daemon, which enables configuration to the license service without shutting down the lmadmin64 service.
- On the server, open a web browser and enter the following URL:
- If you are logged into the server, enter "localhost:8090"
- If you are on a client machine with access to the server, enter "server_name:8090"
- If the license server is up and running, you should see a screen like this:
- If you do not see any licenses listed in the dashboard, then it means we need to try restarting the license service (lmadmin64) and re-importing the license configuration file.
- Go to Windows Services and right click on the lmadmin64 license service and choose restart.
- See if the restart establishes the license by going to localhost:8090 and see if the license is back up. Otherwise, continue with the next step.
- Click on the Administrator tab
- This requires log in credentials that were established by your organization.
- From within the Administration side, see if you have the latest version of lmadmin. If not, stop here and proceed with upgrading: Upgrade a Network License Service
- If you have the latest version, continue with the steps below. Otherwise, try Test 2 again after you've upgraded the license service.
- Click on the "Vendor Daemon Configuration" tab
- Click the "Import License" button then "Choose File"
- Browse to and select GTG.lic, located in
- C:\Program Files\FlexNet Publisher 64-bit License Server Manager\GTG
- click Open.
- Check the box to Overwrite License File on License Server and click "Import License"
- If the file imports successfully, you should see the following message:
- If you get an error message here, let us know: Submit a Request
-
Once the Vendor Daemon is up and running, you should see something like this with "Up" status
If you are still having problems after successfully passing the above tests, please Submit a Request
