Install and Configure a Network License

Jason -

This is a "bare bones" checklist is for installing and configuring a network license server. You need to have purchased a GoldSim Network license before starting the installation process. These steps assume that there are no existing Flexera enabled license servers already installed. This article is merely a checklist to remind you of the essential steps of the process but there are many options that you may need to consider for your specific application that are not included here. Refer to the GoldSim License Server installation and configuration document for in-depth documentation and instructions for configuring the network license. If you are performing an upgrade to an existing GoldSim license server, please start with the Upgrade the Network License article.

Follow these steps to install and configure the network license:

Install the GoldSim License Server Activation Utility (GLSActUtil)

  1. Select a computer on which to install the license server (Windows Server 2012 R2 and later is supported).
  2. Download the latest version of the GoldSim License Server Activation Utility (GLSActUtil) installer from here (in the "Summary of Downloads" section).
  3. Install GLSActUtil as administrator (if you already have an older version installed, click "Yes" when asked to upgrade)
  4. Click "Install" if prompted to install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package
  5. After successful installation, start up GLSActUtil
  6. Find the most recent Activation ID for your license and copy it to the clipboard
  7. Click the "Activate..." button, paste in the Activation ID and click "Activate"
  8. After successful activation, close GLSActUtil
  9. The GoldSim License Server Activation Utility User's Guide describes the installation and use of GLSActUtil.

  2. Unpack and run the JRE installer with administrator privileges
  3. Download the latest version of the Flexnet Publisher License Server (FNPLS), or "lmadmin", installer from this page (in the "Summary of Downloads" section).

  5. Step through the FNPLS installation steps and accept defaults for installation directory and data folder location in steps 1-3
  6. In step 4, do *not* choose "import files"
  7. On the 5th step, click "Install"

  13. Finally, you should see the last window showing successful installation. Click "Done".
  14. Installation of the FNPLS is now complete. Flexera provides a document, FlexNet Publisher: License Administration Guide, which serves as the definitive guide for installation and configuration of the FNPLS.

Install the GoldSim Vendor Daemon (GTG.exe)

  1. In File Explorer, copy the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\GTG\GoldSim License Server Activation Utility\GTG to the clipboard
  2. Paste the folder to this location: C:\Program Files (x86)\FlexNet Publisher License Server Manager

    • After you enter that, you will be asked to create a new password.
  6. Click on the "Vendor Daemon Configuration" tab
  7. Click the "Import License" button then "Choose File"
  8. Browse to and select GTG.lic, located in C:\Program Files (x86)\FlexNet Publisher License Server Manager\GTG, and click Open.

  10. If the file imports successfully, you should see the following message:

  13. Click on the line item and you will see the Daemon configuration page
  14. Stop the vendor daemon
  15. Select the option to "Use this Port" then type in a 5-digit port number (typically a number between 50000 and 60000). Do not use the default port.
    • Note: This port number is different from the license server port, which typically ranges between 27000 – 27009.
  16. Click "Save" then "Start"
  17. Click to a different tab and then back to the "Vendor Daemon Configuration" tab to make sure it updates. You should now see that the status is "Up" in the Vendor Daemons row and your specified port number.
  18. Test a GoldSim client on the server machine and make sure you can connect to the license using the port number @ computer name (for example, 52188@isq-l-jasonx220).
  19. Test a GoldSim client on a different machine that is connected to the server.
