In many cases, rather than changing continuously in time, variables in your model may need to change effectively instantaneously (i.e., over a time frame much shorter than the timestep). Such changes represent a “spike”, a discontinuity, or a sudden change of state for the system. Within a water management model, examples include a pump turning on (or off) or an equipment failure. GoldSim handles “instantaneous” changes to a model by providing a mechanism for a model to generate and respond to such events.
This webinar introduces the features in GoldSim that allow you to represent such discrete changes and shows several water management related examples.
