This model uses a "Run-of-River" hydroelectricity concept, where the reservoir in this model is operated at a constant water level with insignificant amount of storage compared to the daily flow through. Water is allocated using priorities and diverted through the turbine on a daily basis. Hydroelectric power is estimated using the hydropower equation, given water level behind the dam and hydraulic losses through the outlet. Using a time series of historic streamflow, this model samples each year on record to generate multiple realizations of 1-year possibilities (or "realizations"). It is based on work by one of our expert modelers for a project on the Aksu River, located in northeastern Turkey.
The dashboard provides a summary of model results, including annual statistics of power generation and flows.
