This webinar demonstrates the use of the SNOW-17 model, which was originally developed by the U.S. National Weather Service River Forecast System. The functionality is developed in GoldSim and can be copied and pasted into your models. During this webinar, a model that simulates temperature and rainfall stochastically drives the snow accumulation and melt process, which is then used to drive a watershed runoff model that calculates inflows to a reservoir. The reservoir model is used to simulate dam operations as decisions are made to release water in a controlled manner by providing enough irrigation water while also providing a safe level to protect against possible flood scenarios.
The mechanics of the snowmelt model are also briefly described.
