The Model for Generating Daily Weather Variables (WGEN) produces synthetic daily weather data with the same statistical characteristics as measured weather at a location. The model accounts for seasonal characteristics and interdependence of variables. It is a reliable and simple solution for those that need to incorporate daily climate time series data for models sensitive to climate. This model was re-built in the GoldSim modeling framework to leverage its built-in Monte Carlo functionality. One of its limitations is how it deals with long-term (more than 1 year) variability. Even though the model accounts for persistence of variables, it doesn't account for long-term differences like a drought that lasts for multiple years.
In this webinar, I will present a new version of the GoldSim WGEN model, showing how to incorporate annual fluctuations, which are a reflection of the long-term climate state (dry vs wet).
