Simulation of matrix diffusion is an advanced feature of the Pipe element.
Matrix diffusion is the process by which solutes diffuse from a mobile zone (e.g., a fracture) into surrounding porous matrix material. In GoldSim, it is assumed that this diffusive process is one-dimensional and orthogonal to the flow direction. The "Fracture" pipe element provides a matrix diffusion example.
To Open the Model File:
- Start GoldSim
- Click on the File and select Open Example...
- Browse to General Examples --> Contaminant Transport Examples
- Select the file called Pipe2_MatrixDiffusion.gsm
