This webinar was presented by Ted Blowe in November 2021. Below is a brief summary and video recording of the presentation. You can also download materials used during the presentation by clicking on the link(s) at the end of the article.
The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate how to model simple transient thermal problems using GoldSim. First, we learn how to build a simple lumped capacitance or low order thermal network model. Then we apply this method and include a thermostat to calculate internal temperature of a house and power consumption in January.
Heat transfer processes:
- Solar radiation
- Convection at exterior and interior wall surfaces. Uniform inside zone temperature as a function of time (no spatial variation).
- Conduction through walls
- Heat source inside house
Thermostat controls heat source
- Scenario 1: Pre-Covid, empty during working hours
- Scenario 2: Covid, house is occupied all day
