As the latter screenshot above says, Excel zombies or orphans can be left behind (unnoticed, because they're running as a background i.e. non-visible process) when GoldSim terminates unexpectedly (e.g. crashes) while it has an instance of Excel open for data import-export.

The real issue is what caused GoldSim to terminate or crash in the first place. If you can reproduce the crash, please report it to us and we'll do our best to fix the bug as soon as possible.

The zombies or orphans are just a side-effect of the real problem (i.e. the bug that caused the crash). To clean them up, open Task Manager and select the 'Details' tab. Sort the list by clicking on the 'Name' column. You might see something like this.

The first thing you should do is first close any visible instances of Excel in the usual way (i.e. don't terminate these from the Task Manager; just save and close your file(s)).

Once you have closed all visible instances of Excel, simply right-click one of the remaining Excel.exe processes and select 'End task'. Repeat this for each Excel process.
